Eminem has paid tribute to his longtime friend and D12 collaborator, Proof, on what would have been the rapper's 53rd birthday. On October 2, the Detroit artist shared a photograph of the two together on social media, accompanied by a message stating, “Remembering and celebrating your life Doody today and always!!! Happy Bday Big Proof.”
Proof, born DeShaun Holton, was a central figure in the Detroit music scene and a close associate of Eminem before the latter achieved global fame. Earlier this year, Eminem also marked the 20th anniversary of Proof's death, reflecting on how their friendship changed the trajectory of his life and noting that they had bonded instantly upon meeting while Eminem was handing out flyers.
DeShaun Holton died in 2006 following a shooting at a nightclub. The incident occurred after an argument during a game of pool escalated into a confrontation involving a club bouncer.
