Emir Hadžihafizbegović reflects on 40-year career and post-war hiatus
Bosnian actor and director Emir Hadžihafizbegović is celebrating 40 years of his artistic career. During the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival, he was honored with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo for his contributions to cinema.
Reflecting on his professional journey, Hadžihafizbegović revealed a five-year hiatus between 1997 and 2002 when he stepped away from both film and theater. He explained that during this period, he worked as a cafe and pastry shop owner to cope with post-war shock and PTSD, questioning the civilizational value of his work.
His return to acting was facilitated by invitations from Pjer Žalica for the film ‘Gori vatra’ and Violeta Đoleva-Zupčević for the production ‘Kralj Ubu’. Since his return, he has appeared in notable films such as ‘Grbavica’, ‘Armin’, ‘Takva su pravila’, and ‘Žaba’. He previously received the Best Actor award at the Venice Film Festival for his performance in ‘Takva su pravila’.
