Emir of Gumel, Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, dies in Egypt

Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, the Emir of Gumel in Jigawa State, has died at the age of 85 in Egypt. His passing follows a 46-year reign on the throne.

Before ascending to the throne, the late monarch had a diverse career in public administration and politics. He earned degrees in Political Science and International Relations from Ohio University in the United States. His professional background included service in the Nigeria Immigration Service and a tenure as the Commissioner for Information, Internal Affairs, and Culture in the old Kano State, where he helped establish The Triumph newspaper and CTV67 television station.

The death of the Emir has prompted mourning across the Gumel Emirate and Jigawa State, with residents offering prayers for his soul. The Gumel Emirate is recognized as a significant historic traditional institution in northern Nigeria.
