Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel. The decision follows recommendations from the Gumel Emirate Council kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs.
Dr. Lawan succeeds his father, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who passed away on September 3, 2026, after a 46-year reign. Before his appointment, Dr. Lawan held the traditional title of Chiroman Gumel and served as the Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
The appointment was announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, to ensure leadership continuity and stability within the emirate. The selection process involved nine aspirants and was conducted under the leadership of the Wazirin Gumel, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Nasoro.
