Emir of Gwandu pledges to mobilize leaders against childhood diseases

The Emir of Gwandu and Chairman of the Council of Chiefs in Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammad Illiyasu Bashar, has pledged to mobilize traditional rulers to combat childhood diseases. The commitment was announced during an advocacy visit by members of the Rotary Health Communities Challenge (RHCC) to his palace.

Represented by the District Head of Bunza, Dr. Aminu Haliru Bunza, the Emir expressed support for initiatives aimed at improving children's lives. He noted that village heads and ward leaders are already engaged in advocacy regarding malaria and polio vaccinations, including addressing resistance to immunization.

RHCC team leader Sagab Sani highlighted the urgency of the mission, noting that preventable diseases such as malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhea significantly impact children under the age of five. To combat this, the RHCC project utilizes trained community volunteers who provide free testing, diagnostics, and treatments directly to families in remote areas.
