Emir of Katsina urges politicians to prioritize citizen welfare

The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, has called on Nigerian political leaders to prioritize the welfare of citizens and address pressing national challenges such as insecurity and economic hardship. Speaking during a visit by Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, the monarch warned against misleading the public regarding the country’s actual condition.

Usman advised politicians to move away from hostility, witch-hunting, and malice, suggesting instead that they rely on persuasion, dialogue, and conviction to win support. He emphasized that leadership should be measured by its impact on people’s lives and urged leaders to fulfill campaign promises to restore public confidence in democratic governance.

The Emir also highlighted the decline of prominent northern industries, including textile companies and the Nigerian Industrial Development Corporation, and called on elders in northern Nigeria to hold leaders accountable by speaking truth to power.
