Emir Yarar faces life‑imprisonment trial for killing ex‑wife’s father in Samsun

A 24‑year‑old suspect, Emir Yarar, appeared before the Samsun 5th Heavy Penal Court on charges of aggravated murder. Prosecutors are seeking an aggravated life‑sentence after Yarar was found to have killed 69‑year‑old Sebahattin Coşar, the father of his former wife, in March 2025. The victim’s body was discovered four days later hidden in the basement of a house belonging to the suspect’s father.

During the hearing, Yarar claimed he was under the influence of drugs and could not recall why he strangled and stabbed Coşar. He denied acting for financial gain. The victim’s daughter, Aysun Karaca, attended the trial as a complainant and called for the harshest penalty. The court has ordered a forensic examination and will continue proceedings on the request for an aggravated life‑imprisonment sentence.
