Emirates NBD pledges $30B for Middle East transition finance

Emirates NBD has launched a Transition Finance Framework, committing to mobilize $30 billion in sustainable and transition capital by 2030 to support the Middle East’s shift away from fossil-intensive industries.

The framework specifically targets sectors where emissions reductions are technically and financially complex, including manufacturing, mining, power, real estate, transport, agriculture, and IT. These guidelines are designed for borrowers who may not yet qualify for pure green finance but are implementing credible decarbonization plans aligned with Paris Agreement trajectories.

To ensure international alignment, the bank worked with DNV for an independent second-party opinion. The framework adheres to the ICMA Climate Transition Finance Handbook and upcoming 2025 guidelines from both ICMA and the Loan Market Association.
