Emirates to change Skywards Miles expiration policy

Emirates has announced upcoming changes to its Skywards Miles expiration policy. Starting June 1, 2027, the airline will move away from its current system that ties mile expiration dates to a member’s birth month.

Under the new policy, newly earned Skywards Miles will be valid for three years from the date of the flight or partner activity, with the expiration date rounded to the end of that month. This change aims to standardize expiration periods, as the previous system could result in expiration dates differing by up to 12 months for members earning miles on the same day.

As a result of this shift, some miles may expire up to one year earlier than they would have under the old rules. However, the change will not affect miles already held in accounts; all miles earned before June 1, 2027, will continue to follow the existing expiration guidelines.
