Emirati man Badr Al Harmi dies in Mykonos drowning accident

Badr Abdullah Mohammed Al Harmi, a 35-year-old Emirati government employee, died following a drowning accident off the Greek island of Mykonos. The incident occurred on Monday while Al Harmi was swimming with friends shortly after arriving on the island.

According to reports, Al Harmi was caught in strong sea currents. Despite being an experienced swimmer in good physical condition, he suffered a cardiac arrest in the water. His body was flown to Dubai International Airport on Thursday morning via an Emirates flight before being transferred to Ras Al Khaimah.

Thousands of mourners gathered at the Al Diwan Mosque in the Al Mamourah area for funeral prayers. Following the service, he was laid to rest at the Al Hudaibah Cemetery. In a community tribute, friends and well-wishers organized a fundraising campaign to fund the construction of two mosques and a water well in his memory prior to his burial.
