Emirati women drive national progress through leadership and heritage

The United Arab Emirates is celebrating Emirati Women’s Day under the theme “We Emerge Stronger and Better,” highlighting the evolving role of women in the nation’s development. The month-long celebration recognizes the progress made through decades of investment in education, legislation, and professional development.

In the healthcare sector, Emirati women are increasingly moving into highly specialized roles, including surgery, genetics, oncology, and advanced transplantation. This shift is supported by the National Policy for Empowerment of Emirati Women 2023-2031, which aims to enable women to lead and shape critical national sectors.

Reflecting on historical contributions, senior citizens noted that women have long served as the backbone of Emirati society. Before entering formal leadership roles, women managed households, supported livelihoods during periods when men were away for work, and contributed to traditional crafts and agricultural tasks. These generational roles are being recognized at events such as “The Mark She Makes,” hosted by the Al Qasimi Foundation.
