UAE celebrates Emirati Women’s Day with month-long observance
The United Arab Emirates is celebrating Emirati Women’s Day under the theme “We Emerge Stronger and Better.” For the first time, the observance has been extended to a full month, running from August 28 to September 28, 2026, to recognize the diverse contributions of women to the nation's development.
Leaders and institutions have highlighted the expanding roles of Emirati women across critical sectors. In aviation, Etihad Airways announced that Captain Huda Al Musallami has become the first Emirati woman to qualify as a training captain, a milestone following her 10,000 hours of flight experience. In the technology and STEM sectors, women are increasingly involved in artificial intelligence, aerospace, and autonomous mobility.
Economic and cultural contributions are also being spotlighted. The Emirati Women’s Forum celebrated female entrepreneurs, while the publishing industry noted the growing influence of female authors and translators. Additionally, the day serves to honor the historical role of women in strengthening family cohesion and societal progress, as emphasized by various national figures and the ‘Mother of the Nation,’ Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.
