Emitel, MWE Teleport, and BCast bid for Polish TV multiplex

Three companies have submitted bids in a competition organized by the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) to operate a new digital terrestrial television multiplex (MUX-5) in Poland. The bidders are Emitel, MWE Teleport, and BCast, a company from the Cyfrowy Polsat group.

The competition concerns a nationwide frequency reservation within the 470–694 MHz range, which the winner can utilize until the end of 2033. The MUX-5 multiplex is designed to accommodate up to eight free HD channels using the DVB-T2/HEVC standard. The specific stations to be broadcast will be determined in separate proceedings by the National Broadcasting Council.

MWE Teleport has stated that its bid aims to provide a competitive alternative to the current market model, which is currently dominated by Emitel. Karol Warda, a board member of MWE Teleport, emphasized that diversifying the broadcasting infrastructure is important for competition and provides a more resilient system for reaching citizens during crisis situations.
