Emitel wins UKE competition for MUX-5 frequency reservation

Emitel has won the competition held by the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) to reserve frequencies for the construction of the MUX-5 digital terrestrial television multiplex. The company received the maximum possible score of 260,000 points. The new multiplex is intended to operate in the DVB-T2/HEVC standard, offering eight free HD television channels and multimedia services via HbbTV, with a target coverage of 95 percent of Poland.

The competition results have drawn criticism from competitors. MWE Teleport, owned by MWE Networks, scored 183,769 points, while BCAST from the Polsat Plus Group received 133,219 points. Michał Winnicki, owner of MWE Networks, expressed deep surprise at the results, specifically questioning the scoring regarding competition protection, which he described as “absurd.” MWE Networks is considering a formal appeal and may request an investigation by the Supreme Audit Office into the legality of the process.
