Emma Coronel Aispuro uses TikTok to generate income amid money laundering concerns

Emma Coronel Aispuro, the former spouse of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, is generating significant income through TikTok via live streams, virtual gifts, and monthly subscriptions for exclusive content. With approximately 1.4 million followers, Coronel Aispuro participates in platform “battles” where viewers send virtual items, such as hearts or high-value lions, which are converted into cash.

Financial experts and legal specialists have raised concerns regarding these digital transactions, noting they may exploit legal vulnerabilities in anti-money laundering frameworks. Because the platform does not require identity verification for donors, the origin of the funds remains unverified. Legal analysts, including specialist Salvador Mejía, have pointed to a regulatory gap in Mexican law concerning the monitoring of resources received by influencers and content creators through digital platforms, suggesting a need for increased oversight by tax and financial authorities.
