Emma Navarro ends 2026 season to treat chronic health issues
American tennis player Emma Navarro has announced she will end her 2026 season early to focus on managing chronic health issues. In a detailed social media post, the 25-year-old revealed she has been battling Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) and Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism for approximately three years.
Navarro explained that her symptoms, which included extreme fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and cognitive difficulties, began around 2023 during a period of intense competition. She noted that while her professional ranking rose to a career-high of world number eight, her physical and mental well-being were declining due to inadequate energy intake and autoimmune complications.
By stepping away from the tour for the remainder of the year, including the Asian swing, Navarro aims to stabilize her medication and nutrition protocols. She expressed optimism about her recovery, stating, “I gained some weight this year. But I also gained my life back.” She plans to return to professional competition at the start of the 2027 season in Australia.
