Emma Navarro ends tennis season early due to RED-S diagnosis
American tennis player Emma Navarro has announced the early conclusion of her season following a diagnosis of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S). The 25-year-old, currently ranked world number 24, revealed she had been struggling with the condition for nearly three years.
Navarro described a period of insufficient energy intake relative to the demands of professional competition, resulting in symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, anxiety, and mood swings. She noted that the exhaustion was severe enough to cause a breakdown during a Billie Jean King Cup match in late 2025.
Through collaboration with medical specialists and nutritionists, Navarro reported gradual improvement in her health. She plans to continue adjusting her medication and dietary regimens and intends to return to the professional tour in Australia in 2027. Her recent season included a WTA 500 title in Strasbourg and a final appearance in Nottingham.
