Emma Raducanu eliminated in French Open first round by Solana Sierra

British No. 37 Emma Raducanu was defeated by Argentina’s world No. 68 Solana Sierra in the opening round of the 2026 French Open at Roland Garros. Sierra dominated the first set, handing Raducanu a 6‑0 “bagel” in just 25 minutes, and held on to win the second‑set tie‑break 7‑4, closing the match 6‑0, 7‑6 (4) after an hour and 45 minutes.

Raducanu, returning from a two‑month post‑viral layoff and a recent first‑round loss in Strasbourg, managed only five points on serve in the first set and committed 15 unforced errors. She said after the match, “I don’t think I’ve fully processed it yet,” but noted she fought back to make the second set competitive. The loss drops her further in the rankings and she will turn to the upcoming grass‑court season in Britain to rebuild confidence.
