Emma Raducanu pulls out of Wimbledon due to stress fracture
British No. 1 Emma Raducanu, seeded 30th, announced she is withdrawing from the 2026 Wimbledon Championships after a final scan confirmed a stress fracture in her lower right leg. The injury, which developed from a nagging niggle since the clay season, forced her to pull out just hours before her opening match against Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic on Court 1.
Raducanu said she had done “everything possible” to be ready, but medical advice required her to stop pushing through. Under Wimbledon rules she will still receive £40,000 – half of the first‑round prize money – despite not playing. The withdrawal follows a strong grass‑court run that saw her reach the Queen’s Club final and skip subsequent events in Nottingham and Eastbourne.
Her exit removes the home‑nation’s top hope from the women's draw, leaving only world No. 60 Katie Boulter as the remaining British player in the main field.
