Emma Raducanu's injury woes and slipping rankings

British tennis player Emma Raducanu is facing a difficult season. Although the official WTA ranking still places her inside the top‑40 (38th), a year‑to‑date table that counts only 2023 results shows her at 54th after winning just 11 matches this year. Ongoing injuries—including a stress fracture in her right foot that forced her out of Wimbledon—have jeopardised her chances of staying inside the top‑50, which could limit entry to elite tournaments.

Former Serena Williams coach Rick Macci criticised the frequent changes in Raducanu’s coaching team, saying the split from coach Andrew Richardson after her 2021 US Open triumph “made no sense”. He noted that her return to Richardson this May yielded a Queen’s Club final, but stressed that stable, strategic support is essential for her comeback.
