Emma Rafowicz launches campaign against media concentration

Emma Rafowicz and the French delegation of the Socialists & Democrats (S&D) group in the European Parliament have launched a summer campaign titled ‘Culture Libre’ (Free Culture). The initiative aims to address the increasing concentration of media and cultural sectors within a small number of large industrial holdings.

The S&D delegation argues that the growing influence of certain billionaires over French cinema and media poses a threat to democratic pluralism and the vitality of democracy in Europe. The group specifically highlighted the influence of Vincent Bolloré as a point of concern. This sentiment was previously echoed by 600 film professionals during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, who expressed alarm regarding the potential loss of independence in the industry.
