Emma Ruth Rundle releases new album ‘These Killing Times’
Musician Emma Ruth Rundle has released her sixth studio album, ‘These Killing Times’. Moving away from the minimalist, acoustic approach of her previous work, ‘Engine Of Hell’, this new project features more opulent arrangements and dynamic instrumentation.
Produced by Sonny Diperri, the album incorporates elements of post-rock, doom, gothic folk, and grunge. Rundle is joined by a full band, including Jess Gowrie on drums, Patrick Shiroishi on saxophone, and Nick Reinhart and Gina Gleason from the band Baroness on guitars.
Thematically, the album shifts from purely personal reflections toward broader societal and political commentary. The lyrics address topics such as climate collapse, capitalism, and the struggle for agency amidst feelings of powerlessness. Key tracks include ‘Powerless’, ‘Anvil’, and the eight-minute composition ‘Human Kindness’, which blends atmospheric post-rock with heavy doom and post-metal influences.
