Emmabrug reinstalled in Vreeswijk improves local accessibility

The temporary Emmabrug in Vreeswijk was reinstalled on October 1, following its removal on July 13 to allow ships to navigate safely through the Koninginnensluis and the Merwedekanaal.

Local business owners and residents report a significant increase in activity and accessibility since the bridge's return. Annika Willemse-Van Veenendaal, chair of the Ondernemers Collectief Vreeswijk, noted that business is performing better now than during the entire summer period, despite the warmer weather, suggesting the bridge's absence had a negative impact on visitor numbers.

Residents had previously expressed concerns regarding the loss of a key connection to the neighborhood, particularly for less mobile citizens and the accessibility of the area for emergency services.
