Emmanouil Karalis sets Greek pole vault record in Zurich
Emmanouil Karalis set a new Greek national pole vault record by clearing 6.20 metres during the Diamond League meeting in Zurich. The performance occurred during a historic duel with world record holder Mondo Duplantis, marking the first time two athletes cleared at least 6.20 metres in the same competition.
Karalis, who previously held an indoor record of 6.17 metres, strategically skipped the 6.15-metre height to move directly to 6.20 metres. Following his successful vault, he attempted to challenge the world record by clearing 6.32 metres, though he was unsuccessful in those attempts.
Duplantis secured the victory by clearing 6.25 metres. The competition was noted for its high level of rivalry, with both athletes pushing each other toward record-breaking heights. Karalis' performance establishes him as the second-best vaulter in history behind Duplantis.
