Armand Duplantis wins European pole vault title in Birmingham
Armand Duplantis secured his fourth consecutive European pole vault title at the championships in Birmingham, setting a new championship record with a height of 6.15 meters. Despite his dominance, Duplantis opted not to attempt a new world record, citing stomach issues caused by eating Indian food (Chicken Tikka Masala) the day before the competition. He described the decision to eat the meal as ‘the stupidest thing I have ever done in my life’ as he spent much of the day unwell.
Greek athlete Emmanouil Karalis earned the silver medal with a successful vault at 6.00 meters. Karalis engaged in a highly competitive duel with Duplantis, nearly challenging for the gold before ultimately securing second place. This marks Karalis’s second consecutive European silver medal in the event.
