Armand Duplantis wins Lausanne Diamond League pole vault

Armand Duplantis won the men’s pole vault at the Lausanne Diamond League on August 20, 2026, setting a new meet record with a jump of 6.21 meters. The competition, held at a street-level venue in Lausanne, Switzerland, featured a historic duel between Duplantis and Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis.

Karalis secured second place with a clearance of 6.16 meters, marking his best outdoor performance and the highest jump ever recorded by a runner-up in a pole vault competition. Australian Kurtis Marschall finished third with a jump of 5.91 meters.

During the event, Duplantis attempted to break his own world record by clearing 6.32 meters but was unsuccessful in his two attempts. The high level of competition saw both Duplantis and Karalis clearing heights above 6.00 meters, a rare feat in a single event. Duplantis also released a pop song titled ‘Gold’ to serve as the anthem for the upcoming inaugural Ultimate Championship in Budapest.
