Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu defends diaspora Black Stars players

Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has defended diaspora-born players who face criticism for failing to replicate their European club form while playing for the Black Stars. Speaking to Pulse Ghana, the former midfielder argued that substandard pitch conditions in Ghana are a primary reason for the perceived drop in performance.

Agyemang-Badu noted that players developed on pristine European surfaces, such as Premier League forward Antoine Semenyo, struggle to adapt their high-tempo styles to uneven and poor-quality local grounds. He suggested it is unfair to judge these athletes by two different sets of standards when the playing environments differ so significantly.

In addition to infrastructure concerns, Agyemang-Badu highlighted a psychological and cultural gap. He stated that the Ghana Football Association must do more than just recruit dual-nationality talent; they must actively integrate these players into the local culture and teach them the significance of representing the national team.
