Emmanuel Chidera Akwuobi arraigned for alleged cyber-stalking

Emmanuel Chidera Akwuobi has been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos over allegations of cyber-stalking. The defendant is accused of using X (formerly Twitter) handles to make maligning publications intended to harm the reputation of the wife of Tony Elumelu, the former CEO of United Bank for Africa (UBA).

The prosecution alleges the offences occurred on August 19, 2026, and contravene the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act. Akwuobi, who was tracked and arrested in Kaduna, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecution has requested a trial date and the remand of the defendant in Nigerian Correctional Services custody pending the outcome of the case.
