Emmanuel Gérard Ondo Ndong, former FEICOM head, dies in Cameroon

Emmanuel Gérard Ondo Ndong, the former Director General of the Special Council for Equipment and Inter-Municipal Intervention (FEICOM), died on August 15, 2026. His death occurred approximately six months after his release from prison on February 21, 2026.

Ondo Ndong was a prominent figure in Cameroon who served as the head of FEICOM from 2001 to 2005. His legal troubles began in 2006 when he was arrested as part of ‘Operation Epervier’, a major anti-corruption campaign launched by President Paul Biya. He was accused of embezzling public funds estimated at over 36 billion FCFA.

His judicial history involved several shifts in sentencing; he was initially sentenced to 50 years in prison, which was later reduced to 20 years on appeal. Following a Supreme Court ruling in 2013 that increased his sentence to 30 years, he ultimately served a 20-year term. Upon his release, he expressed gratitude to God and the Head of State for his ability to endure the ordeal.
