Emmanuel Macron accuses far-right of fueling racism in France

French President Emmanuel Macron has accused far-right political forces, specifically Marine Le Pen’s National Rally, of contributing to the spread of racism in public discourse. These comments follow a racially motivated attack in the Parisian suburb of Trappes, where a 26-year-old man, Peng Bossi Wangi, was killed and seven others were injured.

Counter-terrorism prosecutors stated that the 39-year-old suspect, identified as Kevin T., admitted during questioning to seeking victims of African or Muslim appearance. Authorities recovered a copy of Mein Kampf and National Rally stickers from the suspect, though he denied formal affiliation with any political party.

National Rally representatives rejected Macron’s accusations. MP Jean-Philippe Tanguy argued that Macron bears responsibility for the rise in antisemitism, homophobia, and hate during his nine years in office. The incident has intensified political tensions as France approaches presidential elections.
