Emmanuel Macron awards Légion d’honneur to Scorsese and De Niro
French President Emmanuel Macron awarded the Légion d’honneur to filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro during a ceremony at Villa Albertine in New York City. The event took place as part of Macron’s visit to the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
Martin Scorsese, 83, was named an Officer of the Légion d’honneur in recognition of his decades of work in preserving cinematic heritage and supporting independent film. Robert De Niro, also 83, was appointed Officer for his dedication to film education and independent audiovisual creativity. The ceremony was attended by various guests, including actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
The honors highlight the long-standing relationship between the two artists and France. Scorsese has previously held ranks within the order, having been made a Chevalier in 1998 and promoted to Officer in 2005.
