Emmanuel Macron to conduct state visit to Spain in September

French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron will conduct a two-day state visit to Spain on September 29 and 30. This marks the first state visit by a French president to Spain since 2009.

The itinerary includes a gala dinner hosted by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, followed by a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on September 30. Discussions are expected to cover significant European and international issues, including the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Both nations aim to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the digital and space sectors. The visit also addresses shared concerns regarding the protection of democracy and youth in the face of challenges posed by social media and artificial intelligence. The trip comes as the 2023 Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two nations awaits ratification by the Spanish Parliament.
