Emmanuel Macron to inaugurate Bayeux Tapestry exhibition in London
French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to London on Wednesday, September 2, to inaugurate a landmark exhibition of the Bayeux Tapestry at the British Museum. The 11th-century linen embroidery, which depicts the Norman conquest of England, is being loaned to the museum for the first time in over 900 years. The exhibition, running from September 10 until July 11, 2027, will feature the 70-meter work displayed flat to allow viewers to better appreciate its scale.
Beyond the cultural event, the visit serves a significant diplomatic purpose. Macron is scheduled to hold a “first in-depth exchange” with the new British Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, on Thursday. He is also expected to meet with King Charles III. This visit is viewed as a key effort to consolidate Franco-British relations during the final months of Macron's presidency.
