Emmanuel Macron to visit Mende for school start
French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Mende in the Lozère department on Tuesday, September 1, to mark the start of the new school year.
During his visit to Lycée Chaptal, the President is scheduled to meet with tenth-grade students and teachers. The discussions will focus on the potential expansion of the ban on mobile phones in high schools, continuing a policy already implemented in middle schools since 2018 to protect minors from excessive screen exposure.
Following a lunch at the high school, Macron will visit the Mende site of the University of Montpellier. There, he will meet with students preparing for primary school teaching positions, including the first successful candidates of a new competitive examination. This visit highlights the upcoming 2026 reform of initial teacher training, which aims to improve the profession's attractiveness through renovated programs and increased compensation during master's years.
