Macron and Carney to visit Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon

French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit the French overseas territory of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon from September 19 to 21. The diplomatic move follows a social media post by US President Donald Trump, which featured an AI-generated map depicting North America, including Canada, Mexico, and several French territories like Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, under the US flag. The leaders aim to signal respect for international borders in response to these territorial provocations.

During the visit, scheduled for the archipelago off the coast of Newfoundland, the leaders will discuss various strategic sectors, including aerospace, digital services, maritime economy, energy, and critical minerals. They are also expected to address the impacts of climate change on the islands and strengthen regional cooperation through existing frameworks like the joint commission established in 1994.
