Jordan Bardella denies antisemitism allegations following Mediapart report

French President Emmanuel Macron has called on the Rassemblement National (RN) to clarify its political stance following an investigation by Mediapart. The investigative outlet published private messages allegedly sent by RN leader Jordan Bardella between 2013 and 2015, which contain antisemitic remarks and conspiracy theories regarding Jewish control of banks.

Speaking from Madrid, Macron described the reported comments as “extremely serious and unacceptable,” urging political leaders to define the words and people within their parties. He also criticized the use of violent rhetoric by the RN against the media.

Jordan Bardella has categorically denied being the author of the messages, labeling them “crude forgeries” and an attempt to destabilize his political career. In a response on X, Bardella countered Macron’s criticisms by noting that he marched in the streets of Paris and traveled to Israel following the October 7, 2023, attacks, whereas Macron did not participate in the Paris anti-antisemitism march.

Marine Le Pen has expressed absolute confidence in Bardella. The controversy arrives amid the ongoing presidential campaign, raising questions about the RN’s long-term strategy of de-demonization.
