Emmanuel Pierrat sentenced to suspended prison term for workplace harassment

Parisian lawyer Emmanuel Pierrat has been sentenced to two years in prison, suspended, for the moral harassment of 18 employees between 2015 and 2021. Pierrat, a well-known figure who has defended various French intellectuals and cultural figures, pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Paris Criminal Court detailed a pattern of toxic management characterized by shouting, humiliating and degrading remarks, throwing objects, threats, and contradictory instructions. The presiding judge described these behaviors as methods of work that had become “vectors of humiliation and control.”

Despite the court labeling the facts as “particularly serious,” the judge declined to impose a ban on Pierrat practicing law. The decision was based on the fact that he had already served a one-year disciplinary suspension from his professional order, had fully admitted his guilt during the proceedings, and had begun required medical care.
