Los Angeles Dodgers place Edwin Díaz on injured list

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed closer Edwin Díaz on the injured list due to inflammation in the right side of his neck. This move comes less than a month after Díaz returned from a 60-day injured list stint following elbow surgery. Since his return in late July, Díaz has struggled significantly, posting an ERA of 11.85 and blowing several save opportunities.

In a corresponding roster move, the Dodgers have recalled right-handed pitcher Emmet Sheehan from Triple-A Oklahoma City to provide bullpen depth. Manager Dave Roberts indicated that Díaz received a “best-case” prognosis from doctors and is expected to return later this season after a brief period of rest.

Additionally, the Dodgers have activated pitcher Brock Stewart from the injured list. To create roster space, the team has designated Jonathan Hernández for assignment. Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani continues his progression toward returning to the mound, recently completing a bullpen session of approximately 35 pitches.
