Emmett Willms' Charity Track Day to Fund Wheelchair Van in BC

Eleven‑year‑old Emmett Willms, diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy type 1, is organizing a charity track day at Mission Raceway Park on Sept. 12 to raise money for a new wheelchair‑accessible van, which costs over $100,000. The event, partnered with his grandfather Frank Willms, will offer ride‑alongs in race cars, a parade lap for family cars, bouncy castles, mini‑races, games and a silent auction featuring items from the Canucks, Michael Bublé and local donors.

Ticket sales will be split, with 25 % going to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, 25 % to CureSMA Canada and the remaining 50 % (minus expenses) to Emmett’s Van Fund. Admission is free; ticket buyers receive a tax receipt for half the price, while funds for the van are not tax‑deductible. The fundraiser builds on Emmett’s previous fundraising efforts that have raised tens of thousands for Canuck Place.
