Emomali Rahmon inaugurates modernized Khatlon regional library

President Emomali Rahmon has inaugurated the renovated and digitized Shamsiddin Shohin Public Library in Bokhtar, Khatlon Region. The modernization project, completed at a cost of 7 million somoni by regional authorities, is part of preparations for Tajikistan’s 35th anniversary of state independence and the designation of 2026–2030 as the ‘Years of Reading Culture’ in the region.

The library, originally established in 2011, now functions as a modern innovation center. It houses over 400,000 physical books in Tajik, Russian, and English, including 100,000 children’s books. The facility has been equipped with 100 internet-connected computers and tablets.

Additionally, the library features a digital repository containing approximately 2 million works of fiction and literature. Visitors can utilize artificial intelligence for information searches, content analysis, and personalized literature recommendations via the ‘Kitobdor’ national electronic library application, which was developed at the facility. This project marks the first implementation of such technology in Tajikistan and is intended to serve as a model for other regional libraries.
