Emotional intelligence and communication key to preventing conflict
Psychologists emphasize the role of emotional intelligence and effective communication in preventing personal and social conflicts. During mental health talks organized by the Mexican Red Cross in Veracruz, clinical psychologist Tamía Córdova Reséndez highlighted that communication involves both verbal and non-verbal elements, such as gestures and facial expressions. She noted that a mismatch between words and body language can cause misunderstandings and stressed the importance of setting boundaries and learning to say "no" to avoid unhealthy commitments.
Regarding family dynamics, psychologist Stefanía Miranda explains that discussing major life decisions with parents can be stressful due to ingrained roles established in childhood. Even as adults, individuals often communicate through the lens of being a child rather than an equal. Miranda suggests that performing introspection to identify one's emotions before starting a difficult conversation is vital, as communicating from a place of anger or anxiety increases the likelihood of conflict.
