Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako Return to Tokyo After Nasu Imperial Villa Stay

Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako concluded their health retreat at the Nasu Imperial Villa in Tochigi Prefecture and returned to the capital on the afternoon of July 27, waving to onlookers before entering the Imperial Palace. Their stay, which began on July 15, included traditional Okinawan "kariyushi" attire while strolling through the villa grounds, and the Emperor remarked on the vitality of the surrounding nature while the Empress noted the song of the bush warbler.

Princess Aiko, the Emperor’s daughter, had returned to Tokyo slightly earlier and spent part of the retreat visiting the nearby Nasu Animal Kingdom. There she met a former classmate, identified as "H," now a bank employee, and was observed smiling and chatting with him, a scene that drew public comment on her happiness and the broader discussion of succession and potential female emperors in Japan.
