Empery Digital sells 1,400 BTC to fund AI data center and repay debt

Empery Digital, a Nasdaq‑listed company that built its balance sheet on Bitcoin holdings, sold 1,400 BTC between May 7 and July 10, generating about $87.1 million in gross proceeds at an average price of $62,200 per coin. The sale reduced its treasury by roughly 48%, leaving the firm with 1,514 BTC valued at around $96‑97 million.

The company allocated $10 million of the proceeds to repay outstanding debt on July 7 and directed the remaining cash to a $65 million AI data‑center project, taking a 25 % stake in a Hunt‑Properties‑affiliated venture that will convert an industrial site in the U.S. Midwest into an AI data center. Additional funds cover legal expenses and ordinary operating costs.

Following the disclosure, Empery’s shares jumped about 4 % in early trading and closed up roughly 1.6 %, reflecting investor approval of the shift from a pure Bitcoin‑treasury strategy to technology‑focused investments. The move also responded to pressure from a near‑10 % shareholder who had called for a change in the company’s cryptocurrency approach.
