Employee caregivers emerge as a major strategic issue for French companies
Recent studies, including the 2026 Aider & Travailler barometer and the OCIRP/VIAVOICE report, highlight the growing impact of employee caregivers on the French workforce. Approximately 20% of employees dedicate time to supporting relatives with disabilities, illnesses, or dependencies, often spending an average of 14 hours per week on these duties.
The data reveals significant consequences for both individuals and organizations. About 85% of caregivers report negative impacts on their health, while 65% experience professional repercussions affecting their ability to organize work, their compensation, and career progression. Financially, 66% of caregivers spend between 150 and 500 euros monthly to support their loved ones.
Social partners in France show strong consensus on the need for corporate action. 99% of social partners believe supporting caregivers is a lever for company performance, and 78% believe it is more costly for a company to do nothing than to act. There is widespread support for awareness training, personalized support platforms, and collective agreements to protect these employees. Furthermore, nearly 90% of social partners wish to include caregiver issues in the 2027 presidential campaign.
