Employers in China and Singapore face backlash over controversial firings
In Henan province, China, the founder and chairman of Kuan Shan Crane Company, Kuei Peijun, dismissed a male employee after learning the worker had not invited his mother to his wedding. After the employee failed to secure another job, Kuei offered the worker’s retired mother a logistics position at the same salary, citing respect for the mother’s sacrifices.
In Singapore, a woman on a six‑month probationary contract was terminated on the grounds of “poor performance.” The Employment Claims Tribunal found the company had not provided clear performance criteria or evidence to support the dismissal and ordered it to pay the employee S$30,000 (about ₹19 lakh) in compensation. Both cases sparked discussion on social media about employer conduct and workers’ rights.
