Empoobando issues red alert over water quality in Ipiales

The Empresa de Obras Sanitarias de la Provincia de Obando (Empoobando) has declared a red alert in Ipiales due to concerns regarding water sanitation and quality. General Manager Ruby Chamorro stated that the measure is preventive and aimed at strengthening response capabilities to the sanitary situation in the municipality.

The water distribution service via the network will continue, but residents are advised to avoid direct consumption of tap water. Authorities recommend boiling water before drinking it or using it to prepare food. Additionally, citizens are urged to store water in clean, disinfected, and covered containers to prevent contamination.

The crisis is attributed to environmental, sanitary, and technical factors, including reduced water flows caused by the dry season, contamination in certain sources, and difficulties in the purification process. As part of a contingency plan, Empoobando will utilize water tankers to support sectors in need, prioritizing hospitals, clinics, health centers, and educational institutions.
