Empordà mobility: CUP demands consensus on rail projects

The political party CUP is demanding greater consensus and accountability regarding railway and mobility improvements in the Empordà region of Catalonia.

Regarding infrastructure, the party supports converting the Figueres-Portbou railway line to a mixed-gauge track to allow European standard gauge trains to reach Portbou. However, they have withheld support for the proposed Empordà Intermodal Terminal project, citing a lack of consensus with affected municipalities and local entities regarding its final location. The project is currently being developed by the Port of Barcelona and CIMALSA.

Additionally, CUP has accused the Government of Catalonia of failing to implement parliamentary agreements aimed at improving regional mobility. These agreements, approved in November 2025, included measures such as creating new bus lines between Camallera and L'Escala and improving coordination between interurban buses and railway services in Figueres.
