Empower Vault Summit addresses youth leadership and unemployment in Ghana

The Empower Vault Summit was held on August 14, 2026, at the University of Ghana's Great Hall, focusing on leadership, mentorship, and entrepreneurship for the nation's youth. Organized by Horses and Stables in partnership with the University of Ghana SRC Vice President, the event brought together students, policymakers, and business leaders.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin addressed the summit, highlighting the economic potential of Ghana's youthful population. He noted that while over 70% of Ghanaians are under the age of 35, young people also account for 70% of the country's unemployed residents. Afenyo-Markin observed that of the approximately 300,000 students graduating annually in Ghana, fewer than 10% secure employment within their first year, urging youth to focus on value creation and innovation rather than relying solely on formal job searches.

Prof. Rosina Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Ghana, encouraged participants to pursue their ambitions through resilience and continuous learning, stating that background does not determine destiny. The summit also featured an entrepreneurship challenge with a GH¢10,000 prize for innovative business pitches.
