Empowerment programmes provide vocational training in Oyo and Ondo

Various empowerment initiatives in Nigeria are providing vocational training and soft skills to vulnerable groups. In Oyo, the NGO ‘Enable Oyo’ conducted a three-day employability programme under ‘Project Enable Oyo 2026’. Sponsored by the European Union’s Youth Empowerment Fund and Global Youth Mobilisation, the training targeted forty young persons with disabilities, including those with visual, hearing, physical, and albinism-related impairments. The program focused on practical employability and workplace professionalism to help participants secure and retain decent work.

In Ondo State, the Jummy I Care Foundation (JICF) invested over N200 million to provide vocational training and start-up equipment to approximately 600 women. The initiative, which also includes humanitarian support for persons with disabilities, covered diverse skills such as ICT, craft making, pastry making, and various beauty services. Beneficiaries from Ondo and neighboring states like Edo, Delta, and Osun were selected to receive tools intended to foster long-term economic self-reliance rather than temporary relief.
