Empresa Portuaria Iquique evaluates Punta Ballena for logistics expansion

Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI) is evaluating the Punta Ballena sector as a potential site to expand the logistics and port infrastructure in the Tarapacá region. The evaluation follows a site visit by EPI's executive team to the area located on Route A-514, which connects Alto Hospicio and Huara.

EPI management noted that the area currently hosts mining and guano activities but possesses a basic profile that could be developed into an optimal operational level. The project aims to create a new logistical access point in northern Iquique to reduce heavy truck traffic within the city and meet projected cargo demand growth. This initiative aligns with the Regional Logistics Policy for Tarapacá, which focuses on port access, logistics centers, and international corridors.
